TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOP

There have been training and workshops around, khat drugs and alcohol and a range of discussions based on issues that the Somalian communities face. The workshops have been run in partnership with Lewisham Community Drug Education and through SOMHAP growing networks.

TAILORED ADVICE

We run the drop In service twice a week in the community in Lewisham and Southwark from 10.0am - 12:00. The service is tailored to provide general, translation and interpretation services, addiction support services, financial management, right awareness for refuges and asylum seekers, especially in regard to accessing and education and employment. Services are delivered in English and Somali. Also other languages such as Arabic and Swahili

OUTREACH

Our outreach team goes twice a week to places where Khat users socialise and chew, currently in the Borough of Lewisham or Southwark, There are culturally effective ways; we give advice and information about the drug dangers of Khat usage. We give guidance on how to reduce or give up using it and open as many pathways to support as possible given the needs of each individual

SUPPORTIVE COUNSELLING

General counselling services, orientation, and guidance are offered mostly to newcomers youths, refugees, and immigrants. Normally, these individuals and families are referred to the appropriate service provider agencies. The general counselling services include social services, legal services, education, and other settlement issues.

SOCIAL AND CULTURAL EVENTS

A range of activities take place at these events. In the past we have organised family outings to the seaside, and day trip. We have also run monthly lunch club which is another culturally friendly advice -giving opportunity.
